| Ready Set Go eLetter 2008/08/06 - Wednesday, August 06, 2008Dear Leaders,
As Awana volunteers we take for granted having our Bibles and the privilege of studying them. But the reality is the children in our mission field may have never had one. Here is a story from an Awana missionary that I felt worthy of passing on, "Our church keeps a supply of Bibles to give to children who don't have one. When the teacher asked who didn't have a Bible, a fourth grader raised her hand. The teacher walked over and handed her one. "This is yours," said the teacher, smiling. The girl look confused. "What is it?" she asked. "I never heard of a Bible before." Not only didn't this girl have a Bible, she had no clue what it is. She hadn't even seen one. No one had ever talked to her about it. Owning a Bible was a foreign concept. Until now.". This story confirms that being prepared to meet the needs of our clubbers is so incredibly important- not just their Awana books and supplies, but even God's Holy Word.
"This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God's people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God." II Corinthians 9:12

Tip / Idea 1. Children are less attentive and focused due to Awana following a long school day.
2. Children are getting to bed as much as two hours past their normal bed time due to Awana and many families, especially preschool, pass on Awana as a result.
3. Families are not giving up their sports schedules for Awana. If they can do both they are, and if not they are choosing sports. Some families give up Awana all together, others part-time when sports allow.
4. Parents are more flighty, tardy, fatigued, stressed, and less dependable on Wednesday nights due to the weekday’s hectic schedule- this includes parent volunteers.
5. A number of potential leaders cannot volunteer Wednesday nights due to an unmanageable weekday schedule.
